Romania has more than 1 million sq m of retail space.

A report by global consultants Cushman & Wakefield says currently there are 53 operating shopping centers in Romania with over 1 million sq m of retail space, i.e. 53 sq m per 1,000 inhabitants. The figure is forecast to rise to 92 sq m per 1,000 inhabitants in 2010 taking into consideration projects that are now under construction. Romania has recorded a growth in rental space of 25% for the past year in some key locations and important boulevards in Bucharest and cities like Brasov, Timisoara, Constanta, Iasi and Cluj Napoca. In 2009, Romania is expected to have 22 shopping centers with 712,325 sq m.
