Vazrazdane Gallery

Missionary work, care for artists, respect for visitors and lots of hard work are the words that best describe the success of Krasi and Simeon (Sim) Aleksievi. The family duo has been managing the Vazrazhdane Gallery in Plovdiv for almost 13 years.
The two owners stake on contemporary figurative art and invite both well-known artists and young, less popular ones to present their works.
Krasi and Simeon maintain an excellent and varied collection of works of art - oil-on-canvas, graphics, sculpture etc. But "The Body" exhibition is their pride as it became also special theme of the gallery three years after its opening. Styles like realism, hyperrealism, symbolism, surrealism, naïve art, primitive art etc are the main ones presented. The gallery also shows interest in the so called "brutal art" and looks for artists who create new body figures.
More than 300 successful art exhibitions have been displayed at the gallery. Among the most popular authors are Dimitar Voynov-Son, Keazim Isinov, Prof. Emil Popov, Dimitar Rashkov, Prof. Desislava Mincheva, Ognyan Nedkov, Associate Professor Vladimir Genadiev, Matey Mateev, Angel Gerdzhikov, Nikolay Stoev, Ivan Milushev, Gencho Denchev, Yulian Yordanov, the Kasapyan brothers, Prof. Oleg Gochev, Prof. Nikolay Maystorov, Mira Lehchanska, Prof. Georgi Chapkanov etc.
The gallery also publishes catalogues and albums (20 so far). By the end of this year two more are expected to be issued. Krasi and Simeon would like to make these print editions useful sources of information about the current state of contemporary art.
Besides displaying paintings, the gallery also gives awards - like the Media prize for art journalism. It includes a diploma made by Associate Professor Vladimir Genadiev and a painting by an artist participating in the gallery’s exhibitions. Since 2005, the Srebarno Vazrazhdane (Silver Renaissance) prize has also been awarded for achievements in art. The prize itself represents a plastic made by Prof. Georgi Chapkanov-Chap. The latter has received the award of Vazrazhdane Gallery for authorship and mentorship.
And not only do the gallery owners give awards, but they also receive such. In 2006, during the Night of Museums and Galleries in Plovdiv, Krasi and Simeon received the sculpture "Polet nad noshtta" ("A Flight Over the Night"), an award for the best gallery.
